Brandon Shores Power Plant

C.A. Murren played a key role in the modernization of material handling infrastructure at Brandon Shores Power Plant near Baltimore. The project involved demolishing an existing coal barge unloader and constructing new marine and landside infrastructure to support the plant’s environmental compliance and operational needs.

 The Work

The work included installation of two 40-foot-diameter, 80-foot-deep sheet pile cofferdam cells to support a new barge unloader and haul system, as well as pipe pile installation and concrete foundation construction for a new conveyor network. Our team also constructed approximately 13,000 linear feet of a structural steel conveyor system designed to transport limestone into the facility and gypsum byproduct back to barges for shipment.

Additional marine improvements included the rehabilitation of existing dolphins, seawalls, and mooring cells, along with installation of a new marine fender system to support safe and efficient barge operations.

 Project Highlights

What made this project unique was the complexity of the marine construction environment. Heavy civil, structural, and foundation work both on land and over water required specialized equipment, detailed planning, and close coordination among multiple trades. The successful completion of this project demonstrates C.A. Murren’s ability to deliver large-scale marine infrastructure safely and efficiently while supporting the operational needs of a major power generation facility.
